FIREWOOD FOR SINGLE MOTHERS PROVIDED

Within the action of donating firewood for the coming winter for socially vulnerable families of Palilula Milos Stojkovic and Boban Mikic, members of Palilula Municipal Council visited the families. Snezana Kostic lives in Trebinjska street in the family of eight, She is 70 years old and lives in an old house inhabited by two of her daughters with their own families. The older daughter Mirjana is 45 years old and three daughters, from who is one married and the two twins, 23. She worked for a couple of years in NITEKS factory and currently is on paid leave but have not received any compensation ever. Mirjana's husband, 51, is also unemployed. The younger daughter Biljana Nikolic is 39. Her fifteen year old son was paralyzed. Biljana's husband worked in the Mechanical industry, but was declared redundant. The eight members of the family live on small Snezana Kostic pension and some additional money for extra care that only younger daughter Biljana has the right on. This household has debts for electricity and other communal costs.

In Dusan Popovic 3, street, near St. Nikola Church, lives 79 year old Prodana Predic. Dušanka, her daughter and her son are diagnosed with schizophrenia. They are currently in hospital permanent treatment. The three-member family lives of Prodana`s small family pension. Electricity was cut off because of unpaid bills (debt 160,000 dinars) and since recently Prodana bought the stove from her pension money, they do not have any money for their basic living needs. Old woman Prodana sells flowers at the marketplace in order to survive. They have debts and many other expenses.

Firewood has been provided also for two more single mothers. Ružica Miladinovic from Trebinjska street, 85, 49 years old, a single mother, lives with a child, 8. She is unemployed. Ružica for years took care of sick mother and because of it she could not find a suitable job. Since the mother died she has been unsuccessfully looking for job. She lives on the child allowance money - 2,800 dinars, and alimony, which is not precisely defined.

Dragana Trenčić who lives in the Starca Vujadina street no 30, also received firewood. This single mother lives with her daughter 29 years old Marina who suffers from multiple sclerosis and is entirely dependent on the mother's help. She can not independently eat or get dressed or move without help. Dragana has difficulties in moving and she is waiting for leg surgery. She lives on `someone else's care`

After the project "Strengthening of municipal capacities to improve the quality of life of socially vulnerable groups" from the "Exchange 3" programme, which was successfully implemented by Palilula Municipality, the management of the Municipality announced that within its authorities, it would continue to take care for vulnerable population.

Free firewood for 50 families has been provided- the families that have not been taken into account in other aspects of social support. It is only a part of activities to support this category of population.
